2023 Writers’ Celebration

Calling all writers

Are you a writer, of any kind – prose or poetry, published or not, experienced or just starting to explore the joy of expressing yourself in words, old or young (or anywhere between!)?

Would you enjoy an opportunity to explore and respond to the themes of Bible Week in writing and then share your work with an audience of supportive, encouraging fellow wordsmiths, and their friends?

If so, check out the flyer above for details of this year’s Llandudno-Keswick Bible Week writers’ celebration, and then read on for more information.

What’s this all about?

At last year’s Bible Week we tried for the first time a session where those who respond to their faith through writing could come together and share their work.  It was such a lovely time, with such a warm, supportive, encouraging, creative atmosphere, that we’ve decided to do something again this year.  We had just two complaints about last year’s session – ‘Why just poetry?’ and ‘Why so late in the evening?’

So this year, it’s not just poetry, and it’s not in the evening!

Who’s organising it?

We are blessed to have Sheila McDermid organising this year’s writers’ celebration.  Sheila is a published writer, with over 30 years’ experience of tutoring creative and therapeutic writing, and running writing events, festivals and groups.  She says that writing is her ministry.

How will it work?

Sheila has pulled together a fascinating format for this writers’ celebration.  As you’ll see on the flyer, it will run from 4 to 6pm on Thursday, 4 May.  Readings during the 4-5pm slot will be by those who have contacted Sheila in advance of Bible Week to book themselves onto the programme.  There will also be the opportunity to send your drafts to Sheila if you’d like feedback on your work in progress from her.

After a short tea/coffee break, the 5-6pm slot will include readings from those who’ve decided during Bible Week that they’d like to take part, and, if time allows, open mic encores before we finish.

Why ‘Dipped again in God’?

You’ll have to come along to find out the answer to that one!

What do I do if I want to take part?

All the details are on the flyer.  Just get in touch with Sheila with any questions or to book a place on the programme.
